Title             : Queensland A Great State Of Mind
Author         : Peter Beattie
Publisher      : Focus Publishing
Year Published     : 2005
Type of book       : Non Fiction
Difficulty Level     : understandable
What I like the most from the book  :
The book tells us about many inspirational  figures live in Australia , about their success story , and also about their mind set shown in each and every proverb they said. Those words they said inspire me to have a new vision in seeing my life and whatever comes to me. One example of those proverbs is “  Success is a journey , not a destination  “ , spoken by Gerrary Gossen , a blind adventurer.
What I like the least from the book :
There’s a few number of proverbs only in the book as some of the figures just  talked about their impression of living in Queensland and what they think about the city. If only there’s more proverb found , the book would be more inspiring

Title : Alice In Wonderland
Author : Lewis Caroll
Publisher : Tiny Tot Publications
Year published : 2004
Number of pages : 104 pages
Date begun : 20 March 2010
Date finished : 27 March 2010
Type of book : Fiction

Level of diffulty for me : OK

Lewis Caroll was smart in depicting the story. When I was reading this book, I jumped into my imagination where thing called “Wonderland” exist in my mind. It was indeed such a great pleasure to follow how Alice were doing in Wonderland. It could make the curiosity of mine kept pumping along the thrilling story when Alice encountered various strange-friends and foes-creature such as the Talking Mouse, March Hare, the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the Mock Turtle, the Queen of Hearts and the Splendid Mad Hatter (my favorite one) in a bunch of-you had never ever imagined before-scenes! The scene at the Mad Hatter’s tea party is actually the most interesting of Alice’s fantastic experiences in Wonderland according to me.

In addition, some poems and modified nursery rhymes for children created by the author along the story were just fascinating. They had given more color to the story and made me giggled at glance! How came? Yeah, some of them were very entertaining. One of my favorite was a modified nursery rhimes entitled Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat.

Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder where you're at!
Up above the world you fly,
Like a teatray in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle little bat!
How I wonder where you're at!

That was what I like most about the book. Now, I just can’t wait to watch Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland on screen. Maybe The DVD version of it will be available in Indonesia a few months later. I do hope the film will be as good as the printed version as well.

What I liked least about this book:
Despite of the amusing story, Alice in Wonderland is written in a dark tone. There are so many mean characters involved in Alice’s adventure. Even the characters who aid Alice, the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat, have a dark edge to her as well. In my opinion, a few of the under five years children might be engulfed by fear of surroundings after reading this book. So, I suggest that if the adult wants to tell this story to children, please take notice about that. Humm, but this book is nice and educating overall. I give 3,5 stars of 5!

3. Does this passage give a positive or a negative impression of Mrs. Roosevelt? How can you tell?

Despite of that, she is also depicted as hard working woman who is friendly, easygoing, and clever that she had won international respect and admiration all over the world.

5. What can you tell about Mrs. Roosevelt as a person?
Mrs. Roosevelt is one of the greatest women I’ve ever known. She is admired and respected for his role in declaring Declaration of Human Rights and her good personality as well. I think I am along with Adlai Stevenson to say that she is a kind of person that ought to light a candle than curse the darkness.

Exercise 6

1. What information does the encyclopedia entry add to what you already know about Mrs. Roosevelt?
The encyclopedia entry adds me abundant information about Mrs. Roosevelt’s entire life from her earlier childhood until she’s passed away.

2. In which ways are the two passages similar? In which ways are they different?
The both passages are similar in describing her personality and her achievement in United Nation’s Commission on Human Rights. However, they are different in the focus of the text. If I were writing a report about the United Nations, I prefer using the web page to the encyclopedia entry because the web page is more focused in explaining United Nations.

5. Which is easier to skim, the web page or the encyclopedia entry? Why?
If I compared the two passages I could say for sure that the encyclopedia entry is easier to skim than the web page because of its abundant information and the catchy layout.
Later on, if it comes to my own opinion comparing web page to encyclopedia entry, It is indeed that the encyclopedia entry is far easier to skim than the web page. I could say like that because I’ve experienced reading the web page is a SUCK. We have to give more focus while reading it because sometimes the layout of web page is not well set for reading and full with ads and other web widgets. Well, I don’t say that all web pages is that bad. However, skimming the encyclopedia entry is better, as the encyclopedia is certainly issued to help the reader to get information about something in ease.

What did you like least about this book/article?
For the beginner, this book is too hard to understand. Sometimes the authors use a high level of language. For the picture it is good enough but it will be better if it uses the color picture. It would be better if the author give a current example and related to the social life. I have read the second edition of this book, maybe in the next edition the author give more details explanation or give more reference.
