Number of paragraphs : 7 paragraphs
Date begun : June 22, 2010
Date finished : June 22, 2010
Type of article : Non fiction
Level of difficulty of me : easy

What I like most about the article :
I like Ratna Listi's willingness to preserve keroncong by incorporating keroncong into every one of her shows. Moreover, she do it not because of the financial gain, but because of the satisficatin of preserving Indonesia culture.

What I like least about the article :
Unfortunately, there are a little bit of Indonesia young generation who have the same willingness. That good willingness of Ratna don't be supported by the music producers too. They commonly don't want to fund keroncong albums. Television also aren't interested in making the keroncong music program.

Title : Butterflies
Author : Roger Dean Kiser
Publisher : www.eastoftheweb.com
Date Published : --
Number of Page : 2
Type of article : fiction
Level of difficulty for me : OK

What I like most about this story  :
This story teach us a major lesson of living, we should be more human and less wild. Roger Dean Kiser shows us with this story that there are still people thinking of nature, caring for nature though there are more people in this world that turn their face away and have no regard for those things that happen in nature. Also the boy can identify himself with those butterflies. As the last sentence says “because they did not know that the orphanage was a bad place to live and a very bad place to die“, you can see, the boy is thinking of himself in this sentence. He once went to the orphanage lie the butterflies without knowing that it is a bad place to live and a very bad to die. There was no one who told him to go away, who shooed him away. But the boy learned that “the orphanage is a bad place to live and a very bad place to die”. I think in last sentence of the story you can feel the desire for being told not to come to the orphanage. But he went there and now he is pinned down there to the strict rules as the butterflies are pinned down on the cardboard.

What I like least about this story :
I don’t understand some new words in this short story. Furthermore, it makes me sad, that this could be a true story where on the earth there is to be a heartless person that kills an insect just for fun.

Title : The Old Man And The Sea
Author : Ernest Hemingway
Publisher : Charles Scribner's Sons Publication
Year published : 1999
Number of pages : 127 pages
Date begun : June 1th 2010
Date finished : June 8th 2010
Type of book : Fiction
Level of difficulty for me : OK

What I like most about this book :

My favorite has always been The Old Man and the Sea with its minimal characters, uncomplicated plot and good dialogues.
The story begins with an old fisherman, Santiago, struggling with his bad luck: He had not caught any fish in the last 84 days and was left by his best friend alone.
Hemmingway describes the Old Man’s boredom (while fighting to get a great catch) with conversation he made with himself, the bird, the flying fishes, the stars and the waves using splendid prose.
The author demonstrates strength and spirit through Santiago, who survived just by eating raw fish and drinking sips water he had carried onboard.
Hemmingway makes his readers wait until page 46 before they could get just a glimpse of the great catch (which turns out to be an 18 feet fish at the end of the story).
The author also shows that luck does not last forever when Santiago ended up bringing back only a partial body of the great catch: it had been eaten by a group of sharks on its way to the shore.
The story ends when Santiago who had just reached the shore and filled with fatigue, learned that the boy that had left him had decided to fish with him again (despite his family’s wishes).

Like every good book, the story does not really end. I will not be getting bored to read it over and over again. It is definitely a good read.

What I like least about this book :

I like almost every part of the story, but if I could wish to be the boy in this story, I would not leave Santiago all alone.

That’s an interesting book. A support group you can hold in your hands, these intimate stories by cancer patients and their loved ones, medical professionals, clergy and friends, are a must-read for anyone affected by cancer. Writers share all their experiences from the initial diagnosis, to breaking the news to loved ones, to discussing the effect on home, school, and work. Stories also cover securing a medical team, living through an ever-changing self-image, the embarrassment of losing hair, and discovering a new spirituality. Beside that, the surfers finding strength they never ever knew the had to feeling an absolute of fear of loosing control, from discovering the true support and love means realizing they are alone. From finding faith to losing it and finding again. In all of these stories, for the better and the worse, I discover that everyone, male and female, old and young, rich and poor, has a story to tell about cancer. I love it….

What did you like most about the article ?
The article tells about the writing system long ago and its development. By reading this article, I know the steps of writing system development which was firstly it just used pictures, signs, and then time by time it developed into alphabets. I also know more about many kinds of picture writing such as Egyptian, Sumerians, and Mesopotamian hieroglyphs. The birth of alphabets and English language were also told in this article. It was so attractive to be read. Beside knowing about the development of writing system, i also get many new technical terms of languages.

What did you like least about the article:
One thing that makes me enjoy reading this article is the explanation from the writer that told in detail and completely . The technical terms are used that cause this article to be scientific. The article also looks more illustrative by using some pictures.

I am interested to read that article because it gives me more information about the news of Palestine versus Israel. In that article, it describes that there were many irresponsible things were done along the war between Palestine and Israel such as bombs in everywhere. It caused children, which actually didn't do mistakes and didn't know anything, became the victims. One thing that can't be finished now is the solution about that problem.
In that article, there are many pictures related to the topic, so it makes me clearer to understand it. Those pictures show how terrible the victims are!

This article tells us about the popular topic we often heard lately that’s about global warming. There’s a slogan said ,”Stop Global Warming”. However, I think the slogan is just a waste of time if we don’t start doing something about it. It is almost impossible to stop global warming, but we can certainly do something to slow it down. In this article it’s mentioned several ways to slow down the global warming. For instance: we can use public transportation instead of driving because it can minimalize the pollution. Other ways are walk or using a bycicle, turn off the air conditioner, save water, save electricity, do not litter, bring our own bag when go shopping. Thus, by using that ways mentioned hope that we can slow down the global warming and to save our world.

Number of pages : 498 pages
Date begun : April 5th 2010
Date finished : April 29th 2010
Type of book : Fiction
Level of difficulty for me : OK

What I like most about this book :

I read this book on recommendations from some of my fellows. I didn't think I would enjoy it at first, but then I know not to judge a book too much by first impression.
I really wanted to like this. I did, but I just couldn’t. I just read it to quench my curiosity and for fun.

What I like least about this book :

Save your time. Here are some dialogs that will give you a brief content of this novel.

First 200 pages:
"I like you, Edward!"
"You shouldn't! I'm dangerous!"
"I like you, Edward!"
"But I'm dangerous!"

Next 50 pages:
"I'm a vampire!"
"I like you, Edward!"
"But I'm a vampire! I'm dangerous!"
"I like you, Edward!"

Next 100 pages:
"I like you, Edward!"
"You smell good, Bella. I'm dangerous!"
"I like you, Edward!"
"Damn, you smell good."
"I like you, Edward!"
"Also, I glow in sunlight."

Next 50 pages:
A. VAMPIRE. BASEBALL. GAME.
(I wish I were kidding)

Last 100 pages:
"Help me, Edward! I'm being chased!"
"I'll save you!"
"Help me, Edward! I'm scared!"
"I'll save you!"
"Oh, Edward!"
"You smell good."

(One star for lack of quality and two stars for being so hilarious.)

The main characters of the story are a weak-easy to be fainted-normal girl (Bella) and every teenage girl's vision of a "perfect" guy (Edward). Bella is described as weak female main character in this novel. Oh c’mon, this is the 21st century people! Do we want to raise a generation of young women who can't stand on their own two feet? I just can’t stand knowing that the main character in this story is so weak, has no goal, no ambition, and aargh she’s just the portrayal of bad girl in the 21st century. If I had a daughter, I don’t want her to be like Bella.
Later, Most of the pages are filled with romantic conversations between girl and boy or are describing how badly the girl wishes she were having a romantic conversation with the boy. To me, being 498 pages, this book sounds extremely boring.

Finally, the worst thing about this book is that it's so popular. There are thousands of young girls all over the world who are falling to Edward and wishing that they could be "just like Bella". I can’t imagine if all of the young girls, after reading this novel, will be just like Bella who just care of her love (or lust???). What a shame!

There are many pilgrims have a great willingness to celebrate the holy week. They came from many different places, domestic and foreign. They had to face many obstacles but the didn’t give up. They remind Jesus Christ’s sacrifices to cover all of men sins. He never gave up although He must suffer because of the cross. The celebration itself is the biggest in history and is attended by at least 15.000 pilgrims.

What did you like least about this article?

I like the great willingness that the pilgrims had to celebrate the Semana Santa holy week in Larantuka.  The wiilingness itself had caused them didn’t give up although they had to face many obstacles to go there and when they were there. For example, the 66th man with a mild stroke, Petrus Sunarso. He and his family had traveled for four days, covering around 3000km from his home in Jakarta to Larantuka. The celebration itself was 5th century.

What I like most about this book :

I'd never read any of the Sherlock Holmes books, and decided it was time to try them out. This is an interesting book, it really one of the best detective novels out there that contains all of the classic mystery elements before they became mysteries. This is a story very well written indeed, with a great characterization and some really interesting faces, from the cowardly Sholto to the smart Holmes, the love-struck Watson, and Jones, a typically clumsy policeman.
The relationship between Holmes and Watson which develops as I read this book is sometimes unexpected, sometimes obvious, twists in the tales. There is also some very funny dialogue; some intentionally and some not. Overall, Sign of Four is a unique case. Sherlock Holmes finds challenge and here too, Dr. Watson finally found her life partner. It definitely worths to read.

What I like least about this book :

I find it hard to understand some new words in the novel. When I read this novel I had to always consult my oxford dictionary all along. but all that was good too. By reading this, my vocabularies are growing more and more.

What I like most about this story :

This story is very interesting to me. Why ?let me to tell you.. “The Dark Side of Beauty" is a journey through the dark recesses of a young girl's mind as she struggles to recover missing childhood memories, dealing primarily with the loss of her virginity. Abandoned by her father, she bears the brunt of her mother's psychological and physical abuse in a state of increasing despair. When her mother's boyfriend molests her, she attempts--unsuccessfully--to take her own life. In a desperate effort to save herself from being raped, she runs away from home. Arriving in L.A., Victoria is saved from living on the street by the charity of a stranger, Joan Van Dersham. Showered with clothing and gifts, Victoria is seduced by this charming and lovely young woman. But things are not as they seem. With access to a wide variety of drugs, Victoria becomes the newest and brightest star in her benefactor's thriving pornography empire. Riddled with guilt, Victoria finds redemption in the arms of her co-star, Ryan, and they become more than on-screen lovers--much more. As they plan their new life together, Joan intercedes, causing events to spin horribly out of control.
